For LL, LLC’s AW19 (autumn/winter 2019) campaign, instead of modeling our jewelry, we asked our models to interpret poses directly referencing the jewelry itself. Dressed in all black on a blank cyc, they create a clichéd image of avant-garde choreography of the 1960s as they improvise the forms of the Maydeto collection, a collection about manufacturing models in artisan economies. At times the models appear commanding and empowered, and at others awkward and disinterested. This points to how fashion is a form of performative self-identity, and the successes and failures of performing one’s political ideals through fashion.
